Bedok NEWater Factory treats secondary effluent from a local wastewater treatment plant to produce high-grade reclaimed water.

The treatment process begins with screening through a 0.02-inch (0.5 mm) self-cleaning strainer. The screened water then flows by gravity into membrane tanks, where chlorine is added to form chloramines prior to membrane filtration.

Filtration is achieved by drawing water through membrane fibres using suction from permeate pumps. The filtered permeate is subsequently processed through a reverse osmosis (RO) system for demineralisation, followed by ultraviolet (UV) disinfection to ensure water quality meets stringent standards.
